Option 01

240-hour visa-free transit

Max stay:
240 hours (10 days)
  • Hold a valid ordinary passport
  • Hold a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region departing within 240 hours
  • Enter through one of the designated ports
  • Stay within the permitted regions during the visit

Ports of entry: Applies at 65 designated ports across 24 provincial-level regions, including the major international airports in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu. Travel is limited to the permitted regions — check the official list for your itinerary.

Getting a tourist visa

  • Apply for a tourist (L) visa before travel at a Chinese Visa Application Service Center or embassy/consulate
  • Typical requirements: passport valid 6+ months, completed application, photo, itinerary and accommodation proof
